THE VERY BEST OF THIS BOSTON RUN
This was the last show I attened where I felt there was continuity and gelling from start to finish. After Bruce Hornsby was no longer a regular, I felt the band was always lacking something in th keyboard section. I had a very hard time digging what Vince had to offer, I found his voice to be forced and Rock Staresque, not organic or natural. His playing was too stiff and synth loaded/ Merle Saunders should have rode out the last few years with the Dead.I know I might piss off some younger heads, but to be blunt and crude, I always thought Vince Sucked. And after revieweing many more tapes from his era over the years, feel it still, if not more... However, in this show he is rather tolerable and the music seems to be able to move and breath on its own, without much interference from Vince, and Jerry seemed to be in pretty good shape. The 1st set has a nice feel to it good old GD tunes, earthy and fun,. but the 2nd set delivers the last of the great psychedleic Shows I go to attend. Playin'>Eyes>Etimated>He's Gone>Drums>Spanish Jam>Other One> Wharf Rat>Sugar Mags.
This set wasn't fouled by Bob's POP star downer Corrina, I always thought that was such boring tune... or Way to Go Home or some other crappy Vince installemnt, it was pure, solid DEAD. Dripping with groovy, extened jams, by 1994 standards.
The Playin'> Eyes was really NICE to hear, a bit loose and stretched a bit.. and then right into Estimated>He's gone, pretty soulful Jerry here... nice>drums space and a sweet little Spanish jam into The Other One which comes creeps gently in then with thundering drums rolls out like a big Dinosaur romping around The Boston Garden. The Wharf Rat is well played, maybe a bit rushed during the FLY AWAY, but over all good and then capped with a well played 1994 Sugar Mags.. Great set for 1994..
The Recording is very good for this era and this old building. Drums are clear and upfront, Jerrys guitar is crisp and carries a nice clear sting, vocals easy to hear. GOOD JOB!
I know my review seems to be slamming Vince more than talking about this tape, but In My Opinion, it's hard to find a decent show after 91 where somewhere in a set he sucks the life out of the show. However in this set, I don't feel that way. Vince is playing smooth and fitting into to what the band is doing, it works here..

Excellent Audience Recording
This is an excellent quality audience recording.
My tall Uncle Sam hat is off to the taper of this.
It has th the ambience e sound quality of a soundboard (maybe
better!)with
